In October last year I was part of a panel at the AES show discussing some of the work of members of the AES Diversity and Inclusion Committee (see this previous blog post). The most important takeaways from this version of the data (in my opinion):
AES conferences have not got more diverse "on their own" without intervention by organising committees.
Deliberate interventions help to increase the diversity of visible members of the conference.
More thought and intervention is needed to address issues of representation among both submissions to conferences, and the attendees.
The AES needs a better method of collecting demographic metrics.
